Growing up, my period felt like something I was supposed to hide. Something to feel ashamed of. The menstrual cycle was something we just didn’t talk about.
No one in my family told me about it and, at the time, all I had was this illustrated kids book filled with colorful pictures showing you how to use a tampon – which only led to feeling shame that my body didn’t look like the girl in the pictures.
It wasn’t until college that I started to think my period just might be normal and not this shameful thing. (Just a few years ago, I learned there were more phases to my menstrual cycle than just PMS and having a period!)
So, why aren’t we taught more of these very important things about our body? How does this unknowing affect our lives moving forward? For me, being out of sync with my menstrual cycle and years of taking hormonal birth control were both a contributing factor to my own burnout.
This is one of the reasons I am so moved by today’s Limitless Life™ guest. She’s shifting the conversation in such a profound way on what it means to have a menstrual cycle and helping all of us – as menstruating women – overcome societal pressures, learned messages about why it’s “bad,” and moving beyond it being some shameful and “gross” thing.
Raven Rose is an Herbalist, an Educator, a Visionary, and a Medicine Woman whose journey started through her own endometriosis healing process. She specializes in Women’s Herbalism and Ethnobotany, Community Herbalism, and Womb Massage (just to name a few). Through her work, Raven helps others find relief from physical pain experienced when out of alignment and the deeper underlying emotional and spiritual illnesses.
Raven’s 10-year journey took her from 10 days of debilitating pain managed with narcotic pain killers to normal cycles managed with gentle herbal therapy. She also shares how using ancestral connection can open a pathway to deeper healing and balance.
I couldn’t think of anyone more aligned than Raven to guide you in taking the first action step to connecting to your body in a way that opens the door to stepping into that healing harmony.
She has so much to teach and I just love how she does it in such a spiritual and grounded way.
Let’s dive in.
To me, the menstrual cycle is a cycle of nature that’s just happening in our bodies.
