Is it just me or do people LOVE FONTS? I don’t know what it is about pretty letters that gets us all tingly excited, but when I find the perfect font for a project, or a new, undiscovered treasure, I can’t help but feel mild euphoria. Since I know a lot of you are bloggers and creatives, I thought it would be fun to introduce a once-in-awhile series, sharing my favorite font finds (would you be interested in me sharing other design resources, too?). Today, given the fact that hand-lettering is taking over the world (and because I just discovered one of the fonts below and LOVE IT) I wanted to share some of my recent favs.
The fonts below are a mix of paid and free fonts. Why not just include only freebies? Because, in my opinion, paid fonts tend to be of higher quality and variety. Not always, but often! Many paid calligraphy fonts also include alternatives, meaning there might be 10 different letter “B’s” so you can make your work look more natural and less font-y. Another plus is that purchased fonts are generally not as popular as free fonts, so your work has the opportunity to stand out a bit from other typography.
I only started purchasing fonts about a year ago, but I think it has made a big difference in making my design work unique. I still download free fonts, too, but it’s nice to keep your options open. 🙂 One last thing — if you DO download free fonts, check the license. Many free fonts are only free for personal projects. If you intend to use them on client or commercial projects, you sometimes need to purchase a commercial license. If you don’t, your butt could get in trouble! Anyways, enough of my blabbering! Here are my ten favorite calligraphy fonts at the moment…and my favorite dog breeds, because #CrazyDogLady. 😉
