As a blogger and business owner, sometimes things can get a little hectic and it’s easy to feel like you’re going at this alone. Running your own blog or business can also take up a whole lot of time (ya feel me?) and working 70 hour weeks feels like the norm, at least at first. As much as I love my job (and I bet you do, too!), I realized that there are plenty of small things I can do to boost my blog and business without taking up too much of my day.

This Ten Minute Task List has 20 simple and quick ten-minute activities that you can do (right now!) to up your game. All that mindless time you spend scrolling through Facebook and Twitter? Well, this list is designed to help you live more intentionally in your spare time, so that when you have a few extra minutes here and there, you can pull out your list and cross something off. Easy!

Without further ado…
20 Ten Minute Tips for Your Blog + Business:
- Respond to one lengthy email.
- Respond to comments on one blog post.
- Send a pitch to one brand you want to work with.
- Follow five inspiring bloggers or businesses on Twitter or Instagram. Say hello!
- Clean up your desk area.
- Make a to-do list for tomorrow.
- Write down one thing you’ve been doing well and one thing you could improve on this week.
- Organize…something! Your desk drawers? Your work station? Files on your computer?
- Take a ten-minute nap. (Sometimes refreshing yourself is the best thing you can do for your blog + business!)
- Pay your bills.
- Double check + pay for your blog/website domain names – when do they expire? Will they auto-renew or do you need to pay manually? (You don’t want to lose them when they expire!)
- Send an email to 1-2 former clients, kindly asking if they’d be interested in writing a testimonial for your website.
- Record your monthly cash flow, including income and expenses. This will help when tax time rolls around!
- Set goals for the upcoming month. How many blog posts will you write? How many pageviews will you receive? How many items will you sell? Think big!
- Search for inspiration! Check out magazines, Pinterest, or even other blogs to find what’s trending and motivating to you.
- Create an email template that you can use for common inquiries from potential clients.
- Schedule social media shares for an upcoming blog post.
- Eat a healthy snack. Your brain needs fuel to work at its best!
- Create a flash sale for your customers – offer a 24-hour discount and send it only to your subscribers and followers.
- Thoughtfully email 2-3 bloggers about guest posting on their site. Include post ideas and a link to your blog to make you stand out!
If you want this in a printable checklist, just click the image below and start sprucin’ up your workday routine.
Instead of crossing off items with a pen, I thought my list would look a bit more organized and sexy by using Sharpie’s highlighters. This way, I can immediately tell what I haven’t finished yet. Sharpie also recently released “Clearview” highlighters, meaning that you can see the text as you highlight (y’know, for neurotic people like me who hate highlighting too many words). I got my highlighters from a drugstore, which also happens to have an incredible selection of candy. *grin* #candyismyweakness

If you dig this list, just click here or the image below to download it and print it out! Hang it near your desk and refer back to it whenever you need a quick pick-me-up for your blog or business. Enjoy, friends!

Hey! Those highlighters are actually pretty cool! Sometimes I highlight too far because I can’t see the end of the sentence. This is a great list! I’m totally a list-maker. 🙂
I used to do the same thing! My neurotic organized self would go a little crazy haha. 😀 High five, fellow list maker!
Ok…I’m a total office supply junky and these highlighters got me really excited. I can’t wait to put some highlighter on this list. Thank you!
You bet! I am the saaaame way! Pretty sure I like back-to-school office supply shopping more than actual students. 😉
I’m totally going to implement some of these tips! Thanks for sharing, Mel!
That’s great to hear, Olivia! 🙂
Excellent Tips. Eat a healthy snack. There should be a bullet for “eat” because hours go by and I have missed lunch and dinner. It’s crazy how fast time flies in blog world. My husband has been getting a little snippy about that lately with me as I don’t eat then get a tad cranky. Never a good combo. Love this!! Thanks!
ha! SO true! It’s 12pm here and I’ll have had is a cup of coffee — I need to eat, too!
I am loving this, Melyssa! Such a handy little list. I’m printing this baby out as we speak (or as I type… ). Have a beautiful day!
WOOO! I’m so happy to hear that, Sarah! I hope it helps. 🙂
This is such a great list! Making email templates has been especially helpful for me. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
I’m glad you like it, Jana! Email templates save me sooo much time! Glad you’ve found the same. 🙂
Okay, a left-hander FOR SURE came up with the Clearview thing, which, as a fellow left-hander, I find SO AWESOME. I can’t even buy these highlighters here but I’m excited for one day when I can. Haha!
haha I didn’t even think of that!! So interesting and probably true! I hope you can buy them sometime soon! 🙂
These are great!! Responding to comments on posts won’t be hard though, given that I don’t really get many. But as for pitching, scheduling and to-do lists, those I can definitely do!
Glad you like these, Ruth! I bet if you focus on the pitching, scheduling, and to-do lists, more comments will start rolling in. 🙂
Amazing tips! That sharpie highlighter looks amazing, i mean, invisible tip? genius!

Glad you like them, Sophia! And I know right?! Such a simple change, but it really helps!
Hi Mel:
Thank you so much for this great list!
These tips will be very handy 😀
I’m glad you like them, Cori! 🙂
Thank you so much for this post! You read my mind, I was literally JUST discussing with some close girlfriends about how to gain followers and get my blog more traffic! I totally appreciate the help!
That’s great Sarah! I’m so happy to help. 🙂
These are awesome tips! Thanks for sharing, just pinned the printable so I can print it later! 😀 alsoooo I’ve been THE WORST about replying to comments so I need to make that happen stat. Also, heeyyyyyy 😉
You are just so cute, even when you’re talking about being the worst at things (I don’t believe you’re the worst at anything, actually). 🙂
THANK YOU! There are just not enough hours in the day at the moment and this is such a great way to still get stuff done while I sort out my life/work/blog/study schedule!
I’m so glad you dig this, Jess! I toootally know how you feel! It’s The Busy Trap!!
Love this list, thanks for sharing!
Glad you like it, Mar!
This is such a great list! Now that I returned to school, I want to be doing more productive things, rather than staying in the dorm surfing the web all the time. Thank you for this! Definitely printing this out tomorrow.
xx

Wooo so happy to hear that this is helpful, Chelsea. 🙂
love this list, I have never thought of emailing people to guestpost, I feel too presumptuous or something. Guess I need to work on that.
You can TOOOTALLY email people to guest post! 🙂 If you have neat ideas that are relevant to their blog, there’s a good chance they’ll say yes! 🙂
I love your tips! I’ve been meaning to get serious with blogging. This helps a lot. Thank you!
Wooo happy to hear that! 🙂
Great list! I usually spend ten minutes on a Friday afternoon doing up a list of things I need to action to hit the ground running on a Monday morning + organise my desk. I find it helps get rid of that Monday feeling a little to know I’m organised.
Domain reg! This one is a must, I totally forgot about mine and in the interim had changed email addresses due to security issues butttt not with my hosting company. So I didn’t receive the reminder email, my domain expired and my blog was down for two weeks whilst I realised what had happened and proved I am the owner of my site to the domain reg company. Lesson learned!!
Since one of your other posts from the ALT Summit when we talked about instagram I’ve been making a conscious effort to follow coll and interesting people on there (including you of course!).
There’s definitely a few others I need to implement asap 🙂
I love that you make a list on Friday, for Monday. Great idea!
GAH I’m sorry that happened with your domain name, but that’s awesome you were able to get it back! I’ve heard of some other bloggers who forgot to update their credit card info and lost their domains because someone else swooped it up as soon as it was available. Stinks!
That is SO awesome that you’ve been putting more effort into Instagram — I’ve honestly been trying harder since ALT, too! Glad we can both put in some effort on IG. 🙂 What’s your username? I want to follow you! 🙂
Haha it just gives me a little jump start on Mondays so I’m not like okay where did I leave off? Yeah I was really worrying that I wouldn’t be able to get it back!
My insta is not_like_movies, beware lots of cute kitties and doggies 🙂
I saw those highlighters the other day at Target (when I was supposed to be looking for 3 oz TSA approved containers for study abroad, but I have an office supply weakness, what can I say?)… and I really want to try them! But I do love this list, it’s super helpful, especially when I only have a ten minute break at work or in between things. Thank you for making a downloadable free printable!
You should definitely try ’em out! I really dig them. 🙂 And yay! I’m glad you like this list, Zoe. 🙂
p.s. Isn’t Target just THE place to randomly find highlighters when you’re looking for TSA approved containers? That place is a black hole I tell ya.
Pinning this one for later, that’s for sure. I love having multi-faceted to-do lists like this because then, depending on what kind of energy strikes me, I always have a little something I can knock out. I especially love the idea of highlighting them instead of just crossing them out!
SO true! Sometimes my to-do lists are filled with the same kinds of things. It totally helps to have a variety of activities!
This is awesome! Making a to-do list is soo helpful for getting things done for me. And I love highlighting stuff so that’s an incentive. Thanks for the tips & the print-out! xo

A see through highlighter nib?! Absolute genius! 😉 Ta!

haha I know right! The little things. 😉
I love yellow highlighters. I love all these tips. I have been struggling with keeping on top of everything so I’m a list maker for sure.
Glad you dig it, Jessa! Good luck keeping on top of things. 🙂
I love this idea! I would more likely put these tasks to use if I was able to pretty them up like this one! Where did you get this paper? (I guess it looks like more of a posterboard). Local office store of some sort? I definitely want to make more lists like this! 🙂
Glad you like this, Monique! I used Epson’s Premium Presentation Paper Matte (http://www.amazon.com/Epson-Premium-Presentation-Double-sided-S041568/dp/B00006B7PY/ref=pd_sbs_op_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0XDP2J7XJ5Y3S2DY5TV8). I originally bought it for prints I’d be selling, but it’s too flimsy for that, so now I just use it for my own blog + art projects. 🙂
This is so great! I just got back into blogging because I wanted to kind of get my thoughts back out into the world, but also because I’m a freelancer and I think it’s important to have a platform to attract new clients from. That being said I have literally no idea how to actually attract them, so this printable should help a lot 🙂 Thanks!
I hope it helps, Eliza! I tooootally agree that a blog is a great platform to attract clients. One tip I have is to write blog posts that your potential clients will be searching for. For example, as a freelance designer, one might be something like “how do I set up my website?” Once they stumble on your site to get their question answered, they’ll hopefully see that you have services and hire you! 🙂
Thank you for making this downloadable! Reading through the list I realized there are quite a few I do already which made me smile. I hope you enjoy your blogging and yes, sometimes it feels like an extra job that takes a lot of time and effort! But it is well worth it, I think! 😀
http://olivia-savannah.blogspot.nl/2014/08/top-10-things-i-learned-from-incredibles.html
That’s awesome that you already do some of these things! I bet you’re already rockin’ it, Olivia. And I agree — well worth the effort! 🙂
Great post! Thanks for the printable! I downloaded it, although I think I will use it as a template to make my own that fits me a little better (replace a couple of the tasks with other novel-related ones). I love the highlighter idea too! I always cross things out, but the highlighter idea will make things more colorful. 🙂
Glad you like it Crystal! Making your own sounds like a great idea. I’ve been using different highlighter colors in my planner recently, to highlight things of varying importance. It really helps!
Love the post, It’s hard to remember to do everything in a day. A very helpful printout 🙂
